Health
concerns
:.
Monkey
bites are a serious medical concern considering the variety of viruses monkeys
are able to transfer to humans. In addition to fleas, the monkeys at the Ubud
Monkey Forest have been known to carry Herpes B and Hepatitis C. There are even
rare cases of rabies being contracted from monkey bites. Rabies
is prevalent in macaques and, therefore, it should be assumed there's a high likelihood
of it being prevalent in the macaque population at the Ubud Monkey Forest. Prepare
before travel or, if you don't, be sure to get vaccinated immediately after being
bitten. Given
their apparently increasing aggressiveness, and the health risks they pose to
human health, there have been calls by some Balinese politicians for a cull of
crab-eating macaques in Bali. Authorities have not yet formally accepted these
calls.
